In a heartwarming conclusion to the year, forest heroes in Tamil Nadu successfully orchestrated the reunion of a lost baby elephant with its mother and herd at the Anamalai Tiger Reserve in Pollachi. IAS officer Supriya Sahu, who shared this remarkable incident on social media platform X, garnered cheers from many, including industrialist Anand Mahindra, who commended the rescue efforts.

The heartening rescue mission unfolded when forest teams discovered a lone baby elephant desperately searching for its mother. Leveraging drones and the expertise of seasoned forest watchers, officials managed to locate the elephant herd. Capturing the special operation on video, IAS officer Supriya Sahu expressed, “The year concludes on a heartwarming note for us at TN (Tamil Nadu) Forest Department, as our foresters united a lost baby elephant with her mother and the herd after rescue in the Anamalai Tiger Reserve, Pollachi.

” She continued, “The little calf was found searching for the mother when field teams spotted her. With the help of drones and experienced forest watchers, the herd was located, and the tiny calf was safely reunited. Teams are still on the ground for monitoring.”

The shared clips documented the officers rescuing the baby calf in the initial stages, culminating in the heartening moment when the baby elephant was near its mother.

Anand Mahindra applauded the team, stating, “Bravo @supriyasahuias! You have demonstrated that compassion and technology are a powerful combination that can help humans be peaceful co-habitants on this planet. Make a short film out of this wonderful story, please.”
