Weather: The dynamic tapestry of weather systems is set to unfold over the next five days, presenting a nuanced picture of atmospheric phenomena across different regions of India. Let’s navigate the intricacies of cyclonic circulations, rainfall expectations, warnings of dense fog and cold days, and temperature forecasts.
Cyclonic Circulations: A Delicate Balance
As of the latest observations, a cyclonic circulation is positioned over the East Equatorial Indian Ocean, centered at Lat 2.8°N/Long 81.0°E in the lower tropospheric levels. Another cyclonic circulation lies over Southeast and adjoining East Central Arabian, with a trough extending from this system to south Gujarat in lower tropospheric levels.
Rainfall Predictions: Nature’s Symphony
Under the influence of these weather systems, the following rainfall predictions have been outlined:
- Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Coastal Karnataka, and Lakshadweep: Expect light to moderate rainfall at some places over the next two days.
- Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra (10th January): Anticipate light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places.
Dense Fog and Cold Day Warnings: Navigating Hazards
Dense fog conditions are expected to prevail in isolated pockets over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh (10th-14th); Jammu division (10th); Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, north Rajasthan, north Madhya Pradesh, Odisha (10th & 11th); and Bihar, West Bengal & Sikkim, Assam & Meghalaya, Mizoram & Tripura (10th-12th January).
Meanwhile, cold day conditions are likely to persist in isolated parts of Haryana, Punjab, West Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan on the 10th, gradually subsiding after that.
Temperature Forecasts and Cold Wave Alert: Gauging the Mercury
Temperature fluctuations are on the horizon:
- East India: Expect a fall in minimum temperatures by 2-4°C over the next three days with no significant change thereafter.
- Central India: No substantial temperature change is anticipated over the next 24 hours, followed by a fall of 2-4°C in the subsequent 3-4 days.
Despite these variations, no cold wave conditions are foreseen across the country in the next five days. However, ground frost conditions are highly likely over Uttarakhand during 10th-12th January 2024.
