Weather Alert and Forecast: Next 5 Days of Varied Conditions Across India

In the intricate dance of meteorological phenomena, the Indian subcontinent is poised for a dynamic weather spectacle over the next five days. The stage is set with a trough extending from the south Sri Lanka coast to the north coastal Tamil Nadu, promising rainfall across the southern regions.

Southern Regions: Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Lakshadweep

Under the influence of a trough extending from the south Sri Lanka coast to the north coastal Tamil Nadu in the lower tropospheric levels, anticipate light to moderate rainfall across Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Lakshadweep. Notably, isolated heavy rainfall is expected over Tamil Nadu from the 8th to the 10th of January, with the possibility of very heavy rainfall along the coastal areas on the 8th of January.

Western Disturbance Impact: Northwest and Central India

A Western Disturbance, acting as a trough in middle tropospheric westerlies, will run along Long. 65°E to the north of Lat. 25°N. This will bring light isolated rainfall and snowfall over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh on the 9th of January. Additionally, expect isolated rainfall over the plains of Northwest and Central India on the same day. Maharashtra will experience light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning from the 8th to the 10th of January, while Gujarat will see similar conditions on the 8th and 9th of January. Isolated hailstorms are likely over East Rajasthan on the 8th and 9th and West Madhya Pradesh on the 9th of January.

Dense Fog and Cold Day Warnings

Dense to very dense fog conditions are anticipated in some parts of Punjab and isolated pockets of Haryana-Chandigarh on the 8th and 9th of January, persisting for the subsequent four days. Similar conditions are expected in parts of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Bihar on the 8th and 9th, with isolated pockets experiencing dense fog for the next 24 hours. Furthermore, pockets of Jammu division, Himachal Pradesh, north Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal & Sikkim, Assam & Meghalaya, Mizoram & Tripura may witness dense fog from the 9th to the 12th of January.

Cold-day to severe cold-day conditions will continue in some parts of Punjab on the 8th and 9th, and Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi on the 8th of January, gradually abating thereafter. Isolated pockets of Rajasthan will experience cold day conditions from the 8th to the 10th, and West Uttar Pradesh on the 8th of January.

Temperature Forecast and Cold Wave Warning

No significant change in minimum temperatures is expected over northern parts of the country during the next five days. However, isolated pockets of north Rajasthan may witness cold wave conditions on the 12th and 13th of January.

Fishermen Warning

From the 8th to the 10th of January, squally weather with wind speeds ranging from 40-45 Kmph, gusting to 55 Kmph, is likely along and off the Tamil Nadu coast, adjoining Southwest Bay of Bengal, Gulf of Mannar & adjoining Comorin Area, and along and off the Sri Lanka coast. Stay weather-wise and be prepared for the diverse conditions that the next five days have in store across India.
