A depression has formed over the north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts, moving west-northwestward. As of early morning on September 1st, 2024, it was centered near 18.5°N latitude and 83.0°E longitude, about 90 km northwest of Visakhapatnam. This system is expected to weaken into a Well Marked Low-Pressure Area as it progresses across South Odisha and South Chhattisgarh within the next 24 hours.
Weather Trough and Rainfall Forecast
The monsoon trough is presently positioned south of its usual location. As a result, South Peninsular India, including regions like Coastal Karnataka, Telangana, and Kerala, is likely to experience widespread light to moderate rainfall over the week. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecasted for Telangana, Rayalaseema, and Interior Karnataka on September 1st and 2nd.
Rainfall Predictions for Other Regions
West and Central India are expected to receive widespread light to moderate rainfall throughout the week. Heavy rainfall is anticipated in regions like Vidarbha, West Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat, with isolated extremely heavy showers in Vidarbha on September 1st. East and Northeast India, including Odisha, Northeast India, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, will also see significant rainfall activity during the week.
