Weather Alert in India: Rainfall Forecast

Weather Alert in India: As of September 16th, 2024, the deep depression over Gangetic West Bengal is slowly moving northwestward. With a speed of 3 kmph, it was centered near latitude 23.0° N and longitude 87.0° E, about 40 km south of Bankura and 90 km east-northeast of Jamshedpur. The depression will continue moving west-northwest across Jharkhand and North Chhattisgarh, weakening over the next 12 hours. The system’s movement will influence weather conditions across several regions in India.

Monsoon Trough and Cyclonic Circulation: Weather Alert in India

A cyclonic circulation currently lies over northwest Uttar Pradesh and adjoining Haryana in the lower tropospheric levels, contributing to widespread weather activity in the region. The monsoon trough, a significant factor in determining rainfall patterns, has its western end situated north of its normal position, while the eastern end remains near its usual track. This pattern is likely to enhance rainfall in the northern and central parts of India.

Rainfall Forecast for West, Central, and East India: Weather Alert in India

Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall is expected over Madhya Pradesh, Konkan, and Goa. Chhattisgarh will also experience similar conditions, with isolated heavy rainfall in East Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh on the 16th and 17th of September. In East and Northeast India, heavy to extremely heavy rain is forecast over Jharkhand, Bihar, and Gangetic West Bengal, with Odisha seeing substantial rainfall on the 16th and 17th.

Rainfall Impact Across Other Regions: Weather Alert in India

Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and other regions in Northwest India will also witness scattered to widespread rainfall, particularly during the week starting from September 16th. Isolated heavy rain is expected over East Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand on the 17th and parts of West Uttar Pradesh later in the week. South Peninsular India will experience scattered rainfall, particularly over Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, and Lakshadweep. These regions should remain vigilant as localized flooding is possible in areas experiencing heavy rain.
