Weather: The upcoming weather patterns in India promise a diverse array of atmospheric phenomena, ranging from rainfall to snowfall and thunderstorms, as outlined by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
On February 17th, 2024, isolated light to moderate rainfall is expected over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, and Nagaland, owing to a cyclonic circulation over central Assam.
Towards the latter part of the forecast period, from February 21st to 24th, a fresh cyclonic circulation/trough will induce fairly widespread to widespread light/moderate rainfall/snowfall across Northeast India.
Meanwhile, northwest India braces for the impact of a new active Western Disturbance, likely to commence from the night of February 17th. This disturbance will bring about a series of weather events:
- From February 17th to 22nd, the Western Himalayan Region (Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand) can expect fairly widespread to widespread light/moderate rainfall/snowfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
- Heavy rainfall is forecasted at isolated places in Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh on February 18th and 20th, and over Uttarakhand on February 20th.
- On February 19th, very heavy rainfall is anticipated in isolated places across the Western Himalayan Region.
- Hailstorm activity is likely in isolated places over Jammu division on February 18th, over Himachal Pradesh on February 18th and 19th, and over Uttarakhand from February 18th to 20th.
- Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall is expected over Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, East Uttar Pradesh, north Madhya Pradesh, and north Rajasthan during various dates from February 19th to 22nd.
- Additionally, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected over several regions during this period.
Lastly, dense fog conditions are predicted in isolated pockets of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim on February 18th, 2024.
