The Indian subcontinent is no stranger to the capricious nature of its weather. As we approach the last week of October, it’s crucial to stay informed about the weather forecast and warnings for South India, Northeast India, and East India.
South India – Kerala and Tamil Nadu:
On the 23rd of October, South India, particularly Kerala and Tamil Nadu, is anticipated to experience light to moderate rainfall at numerous locations. There is also a possibility of isolated heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. It’s advisable for residents to be prepared for potentially inclement weather conditions.
Northeast India:
Northeast India should brace itself for a mix of weather patterns from the 23rd to the 25th of October. Light to moderate rainfall is expected in some places, with isolated heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms and lightning, specifically over Assam, Meghalaya, and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura. On the 24th of October, Tripura may experience isolated very heavy rainfall, requiring vigilance from residents.
East India – Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal:
In East India, the 23rd of October brings the likelihood of light to moderate rainfall in certain areas. Isolated heavy rainfall, coupled with thunderstorms and lightning, is expected along the coastal regions of north Odisha. On the 24th of October, coastal areas of Gangetic West Bengal may witness similar weather conditions. Residents are advised to stay informed and prepared.
Now, let’s shift our focus to the weather warnings associated with the Cyclonic Storm “Hamoon” in the west-central Bay of Bengal:
(i) Rainfall Warning:
- For Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura and south Assam & Meghalaya, light to moderate rainfall is expected in most places, with isolated heavy rainfall in Mizoram. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted for Tripura on the 23rd and 24th of October, with isolated heavy rainfall continuing on the 25th. The intensity of rainfall will decrease on the 26th.
- South Assam and eastern Meghalaya may witness light to moderate rainfall, with isolated heavy rainfall on the 24th and 25th of October.
(ii) Fishermen Warning:
Fishermen are strongly advised not to venture into:
- Adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal from the 23rd to the 25th of October.
- Westcentral Bay of Bengal until the 24th of October.
- North Bay of Bengal and along & off Odisha, West Bengal, Bangladesh, and north Myanmar coasts from the 23rd to the 25th of October.
On the other hand, there is a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm brewing over the west-central Arabian Sea with its own set of warnings:
Fishermen Warning: Fishermen are urged to avoid venturing into:
- Southwest Arabian Sea until the morning of the 24th of October.
- Westcentral Arabian Sea until the night of the 24th of October.
