A low-pressure area is currently centered over the central parts of Bangladesh and is expected to move west-northwestwards towards West Bengal over the next 48 hours. The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 5.8 km above mean sea level, indicating potential weather disturbances in the region.
Weather Trough and Cyclonic Circulations
The monsoon trough lies near its normal position at mean sea level, contributing to the ongoing monsoon activities. Additionally, cyclonic circulations are observed over Southwest Pakistan, Rayalaseema, and neighboring regions, influencing the weather patterns in these areas. A trough extends from Rayalaseema to the Comorin area, and another from the east-central Arabian Sea off the Karnataka coast to the Maldives, impacting rainfall distribution.
Northwest India Rainfall
The forecast predicts widespread light to moderate rainfall across Uttarakhand and East Uttar Pradesh, with scattered rainfall expected in Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, West Uttar Pradesh, and other neighboring regions. Heavy rainfall is anticipated in Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, with isolated very heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand on August 20.
Rainfall in Other Regions
Central India, Konkan & Goa, and parts of Maharashtra are likely to experience widespread rainfall, with heavy rainfall in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Vidarbha during specific periods. East and Northeast India will also witness significant rainfall, especially in West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, and Jharkhand, with very heavy rainfall in select areas. South Peninsular India will see widespread rainfall, particularly in Kerala, Coastal Karnataka, and Lakshadweep, with isolated heavy rainfall in other southern regions.
