Weather Forecast: Anticipated Rainfall and Snowfall from 4th to 6th February

Weather: As winter maintains its grip, many parts of northern India are experiencing minimum temperatures in the range of 6-10°C. This meteorological phenomenon is notably normal to above normal in the northern regions, except Haryana and Delhi, where temperatures are below normal by 2-3°C. Notably, Karnal in Haryana reported the lowest minimum temperature at 5.4°C recently.

Weather Systems and Forecast:

A Western Disturbance, identified as a trough in the middle tropospheric westerlies, extends roughly along Long. 65°E to the north Lat. 32°N. This disturbance has induced a cyclonic circulation over southwest Rajasthan and adjoining Pakistan in lower tropospheric levels. The impact of these weather systems is as follows:

  • Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan & Muzaffarabad, HP (Himachal Pradesh), & Uttarakhand:
    • Expect light to moderate widespread to fairly widespread rainfall/snowfall on the 4th, accompanied by thunderstorms, gusty winds, and hailstorms at isolated places.
    • Conditions will decrease to isolated to scattered rainfall/snowfall on the 5th of February, with dry weather thereafter.
  • Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi & Rajasthan:
    • Anticipate light to moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, gusty winds, and hailstorms at isolated places on the 4th.
    • The weather will continue over Uttar Pradesh on the 4th & 5th February.
  • Arunachal Pradesh, West Bengal & Sikkim, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur & Tripura:
    • Light to moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall/snowfall is likely during the 4th to 6th February.
    • Isolated to scattered rainfall is expected over these regions on the 5th & 6th February.

Dense Fog Warning and Cold Day Conditions:

  • Dense to very dense fog conditions are likely in the morning hours in isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi on the 5th & 6th of February.
  • Dense fog conditions are expected in isolated pockets of Odisha, Assam & Meghalaya, and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura on the 4th & 5th of February.
  • Cold day conditions are anticipated in isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh on the 4th of February.
