Yesterday’s readings revealed minimum temperatures ranging from 6-9°C over many parts of Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab, and Madhya Pradesh. In Rajasthan, the temperatures were slightly lower, ranging from 8-10°C. Notably, many areas witnessed temperatures below normal, with variations ranging from 1-6°C.
The coldest spot yesterday was Gorakhpur in East Uttar Pradesh, reporting a bone-chilling minimum temperature of 5.2°C. As residents bundle up against the cold, meteorologists are closely monitoring the weather systems poised to impact the region in the coming days.
Weather Systems & Forecast & Warnings during the Next 5 Days:
Two consecutive Western Disturbances are on the horizon, expected to influence northwest India from January 30th to February 3rd, 2024. Anticipate light to moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall and snowfall across Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and Himachal Pradesh during the next seven days. Isolated heavy rainfall and snowfall are likely over specific areas, such as Kashmir on January 30th and 31st, and Himachal Pradesh on January 31st.
Furthermore, expect light to moderate isolated to scattered rainfall and snowfall over Uttarakhand and light rainfall over Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, and West Uttar Pradesh from January 31st to February 4th, 2024.
Dense Fog and Cold Day Warning:
Dense to very dense fog conditions are expected to prevail over some or many parts of Uttar Pradesh on January 29th and 30th, with isolated pockets in Rajasthan also experiencing fog during the same period. Additionally, isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh are likely to witness dense to very dense fog on January 29th. Parts of Bihar will experience dense fog on January 29th and 30th.
In the morning hours of January 29th, expect dense fog conditions in isolated pockets over Uttarakhand, north Madhya Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.
Cold Day conditions will persist in isolated pockets over Bihar on January 29th and 30th, while Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand are expected to face Cold Day to Severe Cold Day conditions on January 29th.
Minimum Temperature Forecast and Cold Wave Warning:
A slight relief from the biting cold is anticipated as minimum temperatures are expected to rise by 2-4°C over many parts of Northwest and West India during the next 4-5 days. Meanwhile, East India is likely to experience a similar trend, with a rise of 3-5°C in minimum temperatures during the same period.
Despite this, cold wave conditions are expected to persist in isolated pockets of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal on January 29th, 2024.
