Weather: Heavy Rainfall Forecast for Northwest India

Weather: The Depression over Pakistan and adjoining Northwest Rajasthan has moved west-northwestwards, weakening into a well-marked low-pressure area over central parts of Pakistan as of 05:30 IST today. It is expected to continue moving west-northwestwards and weaken further into a low-pressure area within the next 12 hours.

Weather Activity and Troughs

The east-west trough extends from the depression over the northwest to north Odisha in lower and middle tropospheric levels, tilting southwards with height. The Monsoon trough is active and positioned south of its normal location at mean sea level. An offshore trough at mean sea level also runs along South Gujarat to the north Kerala coast.

Weather Forecast and Warnings for Northwest India

  • Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is expected over Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Rajasthan.
  • Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall is forecasted throughout the week for Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi.
  • Isolated weighty rainfall is likely over East Rajasthan on the 8th and 9th, West Rajasthan on the 6th, Himachal Pradesh on the 7th, and Uttarakhand on the 6th, 7th, 9th, and 10th of August.

Weather Forecast for West and Central India

  • Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is expected over Konkan & Goa and the Gujarat region throughout the week.
  • Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall is anticipated over Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Saurashtra & Kutch during the week.
  • Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over West Madhya Pradesh, Madhya Maharashtra, and the Gujarat region from the 6th to the 9th, East Madhya Pradesh on the 7th and 8th, Chhattisgarh on the 6th and 7th, and Konkan & Goa from the 6th to the 10th of August.

Forecast for East and Northeast India

  • Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is expected over East and Northeast India during the week.
  • Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura from the 6th to the 10th, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim on the 6th of August, and Odisha on the 7th of August.
  • Isolated heavy rainfall is expected over Bihar and Odisha from the 6th to the 8th, Jharkhand on the 6th and 7th, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim on the 7th and 8th, & Gangetic West Bengal on the sixth of August.

Weather: Rainfall in South Peninsular India

  • Scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall is expected over Kerala & Mahe, Lakshadweep, and Karnataka, with isolated to scattered rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Telangana, and Rayalaseema during the next five days.
  • Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over Tamil Nadu on the 6th of August.
