Weather: The IMD has reported a cyclonic circulation over Jharkhand and its surrounding areas, tilting southwards with height in the lower and middle tropospheric levels. The monsoon trough remains active and is expected to maintain its normal position for the next 4-5 days. Furthermore, a shear zone is present in the lower and middle tropospheric levels along 21°N, tilting southward.
Weather: Offshore Trough and Cyclonic Circulation
An offshore trough at mean sea level stretches along the coasts from South Gujarat to North Kerala. Another cyclonic circulation is present over North Gujarat in the lower tropospheric levels, contributing to the weather patterns in these regions.
Rainfall Forecasts for West and Central India
West and Central India are likely to experience widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning over the next five days. Extremely heavy rainfall is expected over Madhya Maharashtra, Gujarat State, and Konkan & Goa on July 25th. Various regions, including Madhya Pradesh and Marathwada, are also anticipated to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall on specific dates.
Rainfall Forecasts for Other Regions
- Northwest India: Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and scattered areas in Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh will see light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms over the next five days. Isolated areas within these regions are expected to experience heavy rainfall.
- South Peninsular India: Light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms is forecasted for Kerala & Mahe, Karnataka, and other southern regions over the next five days. Coastal Karnataka and other areas will experience very heavy rainfall on specific days.
- East and Northeast India: Light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms is expected across East and Northeast India. Very heavy rainfall is likely in Odisha and isolated heavy rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, and other northeastern states during the forecast period.
