Weather Alert: Heavy Rainfall Warnings for West & Central India

Weather: A cyclonic circulation is currently positioned over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh, extending through the lower and middle tropospheric levels. The monsoon trough is active and near its normal position, expected to maintain this position for the next 3-4 days. Another cyclonic circulation is present over northwest Uttar Pradesh in the lower tropospheric levels. Additionally, an offshore trough at mean sea level is observed along the South Gujarat-north Kerala coasts.

Weather: West & Central India

The region is expected to experience fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning over the next five days. Isolated extremely heavy rainfall is forecasted for the ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra on July 26th and 27th, and for Konkan and Goa on July 26th. Very heavy rainfall is anticipated in Madhya Pradesh on July 26th, Konkan and Goa on July 27th and 28th, Madhya Maharashtra on July 28th and 29th, and the Gujarat region on July 26th and 27th. Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, Saurashtra & Kutch, and Madhya Pradesh will see heavy rainfall during this period.

Weather: Northwest India

Expect fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall is predicted for Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan over the next five days. Isolated very heavy rainfall is likely over Uttarakhand on July 26th and 27th, and heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, East Rajasthan, West Uttar Pradesh, Haryana-Chandigarh, Punjab, and West Rajasthan during this period.

Weather: South Peninsular India

The region will witness scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning over Kerala & Mahe, Karnataka, Lakshadweep, and Telangana. Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal will experience isolated to scattered rainfall over the next five days. Very heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places over South Interior Karnataka and Coastal Karnataka on July 26th and 27th, and North Interior Karnataka on July 26th. Tamil Nadu, Kerala & Mahe, and Coastal & South Interior Karnataka will also see heavy rainfall during this period.

East & Northeast India

Expect fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning over East & Northeast India for the next five days. Very heavy rainfall is likely in Odisha on July 26th, with isolated heavy rainfall in Assam & Meghalaya, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, and Odisha during this period.
