Weather: Rainfall and Thunderstorms Alert Across India

As April unfolds, India braces itself for a dynamic interplay of weather systems, promising a blend of rainfall, thunderstorms, snowfall, and heat waves across various regions. Let’s delve into the intricacies of the forecasted weather patterns and warnings for the upcoming days.

Western Disturbance:

A fresh Western Disturbance is set to sweep across Northwest India starting from April 18th, 2024. Under its influence, expect widespread light to moderate rainfall and snowfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in regions including Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand from April 18th to 21st.

Additionally, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi are likely to experience isolated to scattered rainfall with thunderstorms and gusty winds from April 18th to 20th, followed by similar conditions in West Uttar Pradesh and East Rajasthan on April 19th and 21st, respectively.

Isolated hailstorms are expected in Himachal Pradesh on April 18th and 19th, and in Uttarakhand and Punjab on April 19th. Moreover, heavy rainfall and snowfall are forecasted for Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad on April 18th and 19th, while strong surface winds are expected in Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh from April 17th to 19th.

Cyclonic Circulations:

Two cyclonic circulations, one over East Bihar and another over northeast Assam, will influence weather conditions from April 17th to 22nd. Anticipate widespread light to moderate rainfall and snowfall in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura during this period. Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall is expected in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and isolated heavy rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on varying dates in April.

Other Influences:

Additional weather phenomena include a cyclonic circulation over North Interior Tamil Nadu and a trough from Marathwada to South Interior Karnataka, resulting in isolated light rainfall with thunderstorms in certain regions on April 17th and 18th. Moreover, another cyclonic circulation over south Tamil Nadu will bring scattered to fairly widespread rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, in Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh from April 18th to 21st, with isolated heavy rainfall expected in Kerala and Mahe on April 18th and 19th.

Heat Wave Warnings:

As temperatures soar, heat wave conditions are expected in pockets of Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, north Konkan, Saurashtra, Kutch, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Telangana on varying dates from April 17th to 20th. Hot and humid weather will prevail in several regions, including Gangetic West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Rayalaseema, Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, coastal areas of Gujarat, and Konkan, with warm night conditions forecasted for Madhya Maharashtra and Odisha during this period.
