Additionally, they have ranged from 10-12°C over Delhi, south Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh. Notably, these temperatures are 2-4°C above normal in many parts of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, interior Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand.

Cold Day Conditions:

Yesterday witnessed cold-day to severe cold-day conditions in isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. These conditions highlight the impact of prevailing weather systems.

Weather Systems and Forecast:

  • The Western Disturbance, as a cyclonic circulation over north Pakistan, persists, influencing the weather in the region.
  • An induced cyclonic circulation lies over West Rajasthan and its surroundings in lower tropospheric levels.

Dense Fog and Cold Day Warning:

  • Very dense fog conditions are expected in many parts of Punjab and West Uttar Pradesh from late evening to the next day morning.
  • Similar conditions are likely over Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, East Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, north Madhya Pradesh, north Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Tripura on specific dates.

Rainfall Forecast:

  • Light isolated rainfall/snowfall is expected over Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand on December 31, 2023.
  • Due to lower-level easterly winds from the Bay of Bengal, light isolated rainfall is likely over Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh from January 1 to 3, 2024.

Low Pressure Area over Arabian Sea:

  • Light to moderate rainfall is expected over south Tamil Nadu, south Kerala, and Lakshadweep from December 31, 2023, to January 3, 2024, due to a fresh easterly wave and Low-Pressure Area over the Arabian Sea.
