Weather Update in India: Further Withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon

Weather Update in India: As the Southwest Monsoon continues to retreat, a new weather update in India highlights its further withdrawal from various regions. The current line of withdrawal of the monsoon passes through 29°N/84°E, covering areas such as Nautanwa, Sultanpur, Panna, Narmada Puram, Khargone, Nandurbar, Navsari, and 20°N/70°E. Over the next 2-3 days, conditions are favorable for the monsoon’s withdrawal from the remaining parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and additional regions of Maharashtra.

Weather Systems

A significant development in the weather update in India is the cyclonic circulation observed over south Kerala, which has shifted over Lakshadweep and the adjoining southeast Arabian Sea, extending up to middle tropospheric levels. Additionally, a trough runs from this circulation to north coastal Tamil Nadu in lower tropospheric levels. Under the influence of this system, a low-pressure area is likely to form over Lakshadweep and the adjoining Arabian Sea around October 9th. This system is expected to move northwestwards and intensify into a depression over the central Arabian Sea in the following days.

Forecast & Warnings for South Peninsular India

According to the latest weather update in India, South Peninsular regions, including Lakshadweep, Kerala, Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, are likely to experience fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall in the coming week. Coastal Karnataka, South Interior Karnataka, and North Interior Karnataka, along with parts of Telangana, Rayalaseema, and Coastal Andhra Pradesh, may also witness scattered rainfall.

Isolated heavy rainfall is anticipated in Kerala, Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal throughout the week. On October 9th, Rayalaseema, Coastal Karnataka, and Lakshadweep are likely to experience heavy rain, while South Interior Karnataka may be affected on October 11th.

Forecast for Northeast India

The weather update in India also predicts scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall over North East India during the week. Isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya from October 9th to 11th, while Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura could experience heavy showers on October 9th.

Northwest, West, East & Central India

For these regions, the weather update in India indicates no significant rainfall over the next week, with dry weather likely to prevail as the monsoon makes its gradual withdrawal.
