Weather: Yesterday, minimum temperatures in several regions dipped to a range of 7-10°C, impacting parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, north Rajasthan, northeast Madhya Pradesh, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim. Notably, temperatures were 2-4°C below normal in some areas of Bihar, as well as in isolated pockets of East Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Gangetic West Bengal. In Delhi and East Madhya Pradesh, the mercury dropped in the range of 1-3°C. The lowest minimum temperature, a chilly 5.0°C, was reported at Sabaur in Bihar.

Looking ahead, the next week is expected to witness the influence of three consecutive Western Disturbances on northwest India. Anticipate light to moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall and snowfall over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan & Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand during the next 7 days (30th Jan to 05th Feb). Isolated heavy rainfall and snowfall are also likely over specific regions, including Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Arunachal Pradesh on various dates.
In addition, light to moderate isolated to scattered rainfall is expected over Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh on 31st January & 01st February 2024. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim may experience isolated hailstorms on 31st January & 02nd February 2024.
Dense Fog and Cold Day Warning: Be Prepared for Visibility Challenges
Dense to very dense fog conditions are anticipated in the morning hours over some parts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar on 31st January & 01st February 2024. Isolated pockets in north Rajasthan are likely to experience dense fog on 31st January 2024. Meanwhile, cold-day to severe cold-day conditions are expected to persist in isolated pockets of East Uttar Pradesh and Bihar on the 30th & 31st of January 2024.
Minimum Temperature Forecast and Cold Wave Warning: Changes in Store
Weather- Over the next 3 days, a rise by 2-4°C in minimum temperatures is highly likely over many parts of Northwest & Central India. Similarly, a rise by 2-3°C in minimum temperatures is anticipated over many parts of East India in the next 24 hours, with no significant change thereafter. However, cold wave conditions are not expected to prevail over most parts of the country during the next 5 days.
