The recent weather conditions have brought a chill to the northern parts of India, with minimum temperatures ranging from 5-10°C in areas including Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, north Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh.

Weather Systems Overview:

Two prominent weather systems are currently impacting the Indian subcontinent:

  1. Cyclonic Circulation: A Cyclonic Circulation prevails over the Southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Equatorial Indian Ocean in lower tropospheric levels, influencing the weather patterns in the southern regions.
  2. Western Disturbance: A Western Disturbance is identified as a trough in middle tropospheric levels, extending along Long. 64°E and north of Lat. 28°N. This disturbance is expected to play a key role in the upcoming weather dynamics.

Forecast & Warnings:

Rainfall Predictions (16th – 20th December):

  • Southern Regions: Anticipate light to moderate rainfall at various places in Tamil Nadu, Kerala & Mahe, and Lakshadweep during this period.
  • Heavy Rainfall: Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over south Tamil Nadu (16th to 19th) and Kerala (16th & 17th), with very heavy rainfall expected over specific pockets on the mentioned dates.

Snowfall and Rainfall Forecast:

  • Northern Regions: Isolated rainfall/snowfall is anticipated over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-GilgitBaltistan-Muzaffarabad on the 16th & 17th, and over Himachal Pradesh on the 16th December.

Remaining Parts of the Country:

  • General Weather: No significant weather changes are expected in the remaining parts of the country during the next 5 days.

Dense Fog Warning:

As we move forward, residents of Punjab and Haryana should be prepared for dense fog, likely to occur in isolated pockets during the morning hours over the next 5 days.

Minimum Temperatures Forecast:

For the northern parts of the country, including Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, north Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, minimal fluctuations in minimum temperatures are anticipated. No significant change is expected over the next 4-5 days.
