Weather Update: Varied Temperatures and Fog Alerts Across Northern and Central India

The recent weather patterns in Northern and Central India have showcased a spectrum of temperatures, with minimum readings fluctuating between 7-10°C in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and 11-12°C in Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, and interior Odisha. Notably, some areas experienced temperatures 2-3°C above the normal range, particularly in Punjab, Delhi, West Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Gujarat, and northeast India.

Dense Fog Warnings:

Looking ahead, a dense to very dense fog is anticipated during night and morning hours in many parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi on the 28th-29th, persisting in some areas for the subsequent 3 days. Similar conditions are expected in parts of Uttar Pradesh during the mentioned period, with isolated pockets experiencing dense fog for the next 3 days. Furthermore, Odisha may witness isolated pockets of dense fog on the morning of the 28th, while north Rajasthan, northwest Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura may experience dense fog during the morning hours from 28th-31st December 2023.

Rainfall Forecast:

A fresh Western Disturbance is poised to influence Northwest India from 30th December, resulting in light isolated rainfall over several regions, including Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Vidarbha during 31st December 2023, to 02nd January, 2024. Simultaneously, a new easterly wave will bring a spell of light to moderate rainfall over south Tamil Nadu and Kerala from 30th December to 02nd January, 2024, with isolated heavy rainfall expected in south Tamil Nadu on 30th and 31st December, 2023.

Minimum Temperatures Forecast:

Over the next 5 days, no significant changes in minimum temperatures are expected in northwest and east India. However, in central India, there will be no significant change in minimum temperatures over the next 24 hours, followed by a subsequent rise of 2-3°C.

As the weather unfolds in the coming days, residents and travelers in these regions are advised to stay informed about local forecasts and take necessary precautions, especially in areas prone to dense fog. The varied weather conditions emphasize the need for flexibility in planning and preparedness for potential temperature fluctuations and rainfall events.
