Weather Update: Western Disturbance Brings Rainfall and Thunderstorms

As we approach the end of November 2023, meteorological conditions are set to bring a series of weather phenomena across different regions of India. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued forecasts indicating the development of an upper air Cyclonic Circulation over interior Tamil Nadu and adjoining Kerala in the lower tropospheric levels. This system is expected to trigger light to moderate rainfall at most places, with isolated heavy rainfall forecasted over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Mahe, along with South Interior Karnataka on the 23rd and 24th of November.

Rainfall Outlook for 23rd & 24th November

Residents in the aforementioned regions should brace themselves for varying degrees of precipitation. The IMD anticipates light to moderate rainfall in most places, with isolated instances of heavy rainfall. It is crucial for residents and authorities to stay updated on local weather advisories to ensure preparedness and safety.

Western Disturbance Impact from 25th November

Following this, a fresh Western Disturbance is predicted to influence Northwest and West India from the 25th of November onwards. This disturbance, interacting with lower-level easterlies, is expected to bring about the following weather conditions:

  1. 24th-27th November:
    • Light to moderate rainfall in many places.
    • Isolated thunderstorms and lightning over north Madhya Maharashtra, north Konkan, Gujarat, Southwest Madhya Pradesh, and south Rajasthan.
    • Maximum activity is anticipated on the 26th of November.
  2. 27th-28th November:
    • Light rainfall at isolated places over the Western Himalayan Region and plains of Northwest India.

Cyclonic Circulation in the South Andaman Sea

Around the 25th of November, a Cyclonic Circulation is likely to emerge over the South Andaman Sea and its surrounding areas. Under its influence, a Low-Pressure Area is expected to form around the 26th of November. This system is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a Depression over the Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining Andaman Sea around the 27th of November.

Preparedness and Caution

As these weather systems unfold, it is crucial for residents, local authorities, and emergency services to stay vigilant and adhere to any advisories issued by the IMD. Adequate preparedness and caution are advised, especially in areas forecasted to experience heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and the potential formation of a Depression.

Staying informed about these weather developments will be instrumental in minimizing the impact of these meteorological events. Regular updates from reliable sources will enable individuals and communities to make informed decisions and take necessary precautions to ensure safety and well-being.
