Weather Warnings: Rainfall and Thunderstorms Alert Across India

Weather: On March 31st, 2024, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued forecasts and warnings for different regions across the country.

In Northern India, a Western Disturbance, now appearing as a trough, is expected to bring scattered light to moderate rainfall/snowfall and isolated thunderstorms & lightning over Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.

Moving towards the Eastern and Southern parts, cyclonic circulations and troughs are likely to result in scattered to widespread light to moderate rainfall/snowfall. Isolated heavy rainfall/snowfall is anticipated in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and the Sub-Himalayan regions of West Bengal & Sikkim.

Additionally, isolated thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are predicted over Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, East Madhya Pradesh, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, and Tamil Nadu.

Moreover, the IMD forecasts maximum temperatures ranging from 40-42°C in certain areas of East Madhya Pradesh, South Andhra Pradesh, and North Interior Karnataka. Heat wave conditions are likely in isolated pockets of Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, North Interior Karnataka, Telangana, and Rayalaseema.

Furthermore, warm night conditions are expected in isolated pockets of Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Telangana.

Lastly, hot and humid weather is anticipated over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe, and Rayalaseema.
