The Indian government has released data showing that 98 civilians and security personnel were killed in Maoist violence in India in 2022.
The data was presented in the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian Parliament, by Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai.
The government also reported that there were 750 incidents of Maoist violence in India in 2022.
The state of Chhattisgarh saw the highest number of fatalities, with 41 civilians and security personnel killed.
The government has taken steps to combat Maoist violence, including increasing the number of security personnel deployed in affected areas.
However, Maoist groups continue to be active in parts of India, particularly in the eastern and central states.
The issue of Maoist violence has been a long-standing challenge for the Indian government, with efforts to address the problem spanning several decades.
