He was born on December 24, 1956, in Mumbai, He is the son of film producer Surinder Kapoor and the brother of film producer Boney Kapoor and actor Sanjay Kapoor.

Anil Kapoor began his acting career in the late 1970s with a small role in the film "Hamare Tumhare."

He rose to prominence in the 1980s with roles in films like "Mashaal," "Meri Jung," and "Chameli Ki Shaadi." Kapoor's breakout role was in the 1987 film "Mr. India," in which he played the lead character Arun Verma.
