Five bulldozers roll into the Beleshwar Mahadev temple in Madhya Pradesh's Indore to demolish illegal construction days after the tragedy that killed 36 people.

Two officials of the temple trust are facing a police case, while two municipal officials have been suspended for failing to remove illegal construction.

The temple area that collapsed was an illegal structure, and the Indore Municipal Corporation had marked the cover of the stepwell for demolition last year but backed down after the temple trust warned them that religious sentiments would be hurt.

The temple is managed by a private trust and is located at Sneh Nagar, one of the oldest residential colonies in Indore.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced a compensation of ₹ 5 lacks for the families of the victims and ₹ 50,000 for those injured in the accident and ordered a magisterial probe.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also announced compensation from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund for the families of the accident victims.
