Celiac Disease: An autoimmune disorder that affects the digestive system

source - canva

Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder

that affects the digestive system

causing damage to the small intestine when gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye, is consumed.

Celiac disease is a genetic condition and can be diagnosed through blood tests

and a biopsy of the small intestine.

If you've been diagnosed with celiac disease, the only treatment is a gluten-free diet.

While it can be challenging to maintain a gluten-free diet

many people with celiac disease are able to manage their symptoms and lead healthy, active lives.
