Chanakya was an ancient Indian polymath who was a teacher, author, strategist, philosopher, economist, jurist, and royal advisor. 

He is traditionally identified as Kautilya or Vishnugupta. He wrote the ancient Indian political treatise, Arthashastra. 

Chanakya spent his life creating the Maurya Empire and directing its pioneer—Chandragupta Maurya and his son, Bindusara. 

The Maurya dynasty began in 322 BC when Chandragupta won over the throne, ending the Nanda dynasty. 

Chanakya was a master of the Vedas and the Vedic scriptures. He is also said to have authored several treatises on economics and political science. 

He was a man of great wisdom and is said to have been an expert in statecraft and diplomacy. 

Chanakya was a Brahmin by caste. 

Chanakya was a contemporary of the great Indian emperor, Chandragupta Maurya.
