CM Conrad K Sangma Launch Jackfruit Processing Unit in Meghalaya
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma acknowledges South Garo Hills as having some of the finest quality jackfruits in Meghalaya, emphasizing the region's agricultural potential.
The inauguration of the Jackfruit Processing Unit cum Rongara PRIME HUB aims to tackle the prevalent wastage problem in the Garo Hills region, indicating a strategic move towards efficient utilization of agricultural produce.
The project signifies a community-driven approach, as the unit will be managed by the Rongara Agro Food Processing Cooperative Society and owned entirely by the community. It is expected to catalyze economic development in the region by creating employment opportunities and boosting overall prosperity.
With a processing capacity of nearly 2 tons per day and plans to introduce over 20 value-added products derived from organic jackfruit, the initiative is poised to impact approximately 5000 farmers and generate employment for around 100 youth across South Garo Hills, reflecting a significant socio-economic footprint.
