Five police personnel killed in a Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh were former Naxalites who had joined the force.

The DRG personnel were on a mission to combat the Maoist insurgency in Dantewada's Aranpur area when they were ambushed.

Head Constables Joga Sodi, Munna Kadti, Constables Hariram Mandavi, and Joga Kawasi, and Gopniya Sainik Rajuram Kartam were the five former Naxalites who lost their lives in the attack.

Sodi and Kadti joined the police force in 2017, while Mandavi and Kartam were inducted in 2020 and 2022, respectively.

The DRG personnel are known as "sons of the soil" and are recruited from among local youths and surrendered Naxals in the Bastar division, a Maoist hotbed.
