15-05-2023
Foxconn, an Apple Inc supplier, plans to invest $500 million to establish manufacturing plants in Telangana, a southern Indian state. This was announced by the state's IT minister, K. T. Rama Rao.
The investment is expected to create 25,000 jobs in the initial phase, providing a significant employment boost to the region.
In March, it was reported that Foxconn had secured a contract to manufacture AirPods for Apple. As a result, the company intends to construct a factory in India specifically for producing these products.
Apple has been diversifying its production away from China due to previous disruptions caused by COVID-19 restrictions and to mitigate risks associated with tensions between China and the United States.
Foxconn had previously received approval from the Karnataka government in India for a separate investment of $968 million.
