Smriti Irani was born on March 23, 1976, in New Delhi, India.
She started her career as a model and then became a television actress, best known for her role in the soap opera "Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi."
In 2003, she joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and became its national spokesperson in 2010.
She contested in the 2014 general election from Amethi, a stronghold of the Indian National Congress, Though she lost the election. in 2019, Irani contested again from Amethi and defeated Rahul Gandhi with a margin of over 55,000 votes.
In May 2014, she was appointed as the Minister of Human Resource Development in the Narendra Modi-led government.
In 2016, she was appointed as the Minister of Textiles in a cabinet reshuffle. In 2017, she was given the additional charge of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
She has been known for her vocal support of the BJP and its policies, as well as her ability to connect with the masses through her speeches and social media presence.
