Children's Day is celebrated across India to raise awareness about children's rights, education, and welfare.
It is celebrated every year on 14 November, which is the birthday of the First Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Nehru was known to be fond of children.
Many educational and motivational programs for children are held all over India on this day.
On 5th November 1948, the first Children's Day was observed as "Flower Day" by the predecessor of the Indian Council of Child Welfare
"Children's Day" was widely celebrated and publicized on 30 July 1949 through radio, articles, cinema, etc.
Children affectionately called Jawaharlal Nehru "Chacha Nehru," and his faith in them was a constant source of happiness.
Nehru, as the Prime Minister, wanted to create an atmosphere in which the country's attention is constantly focused on children and their welfare.
In 1955, he also established the Children's Film Society India so that Indian children could see themselves represented.
M.O. Mathai wrote in his book"My Days With Nehru'' (1979) that Nehru was concerned for children and their welfare.
