INS Imphal Commissioning: Aatmanirbharta's Triumph in Maritime Power
The Project 15B stealth-guided missile destroyer, INS Imphal, was commissioned into the Indian Navy at a ceremony in Mumbai on December 26, 2023, attended by Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh.
INS Imphal is the third destroyer of the indigenous ‘Visakhapatnam’ class, a project led by the Indian Navy’s Warship Design Bureau and constructed by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL), Mumbai.
Raksha Mantri described INS Imphal as a shining example of ‘Aatmanirbharta’ in defense, highlighting the collaboration of the Indian Navy, MDL, and other stakeholders for national security.
The Raksha Mantri emphasized INS Imphal as a symbol of India's growing maritime power, reinforcing the principle of ‘Jalmev Yasya, Balmev Tasya’ (One Who Controls the Sea is All Powerful) in the Indo-Pacific region.
