Karnataka DGP Praveen Sood Takes Charge as CBI Director with Extended Tenure

Praveen Sood, the Director General of Police (DGP) in Karnataka, has been appointed as the next director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), according to a government order.

He will assume the position after the completion of Subodh Kumar Jaiswal's tenure on May 25 and will serve as the CBI director for a period of two years from the date of taking charge.

Mr. Sood is a 1986-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer belonging to the Karnataka cadre.

He has been serving as the State DGP in Karnataka for the past three years.

Despite his initial retirement date, his appointment as the CBI director grants him a two-year fixed tenure, ensuring he will remain in office until at least May 2025.
