An idol of Lord Hanuman and Saint Barbar Swami made of Ashtadhatu, was stolen from Lord Sriranganath Temple in Gundi village, Bihar in 1994.

The police recovered the stolen idols from a well and have kept them in the strong room of a police station in the area since then.

The Bihar State Religious Trust Board (BSRTB) filed a public interest litigation (PIL) in the Patna High Court, seeking a direction for the return of all the recovered idols to the Trust.

After a long-fought legal battle, the court passed an order to release the idols.

Acharya Kishore Kunal, former chairman of the BSRTB, and Ajit Kumar Dubey, an advocate of Arrah Civil Court, fought the battle for the idols' release.

Devotees took out a grand procession to take the idols out of the police station and toured the entire area, and both the idols will be reinstated in Lord Srirangnath Temple.

The head of East Gundi Panchayat, Krishna Kumar Singh, engaged in taking out the grand procession after Lord Hanuman's release, expressed happiness and called it a historic day.
