Mamata Banerjee Offers Support to Congress in Exchange for Sacrifices in West Bengal
16-05-2023
Mamata Banerjee, Chief Minister of West Bengal, announced that her party, the Trinamool Congress, would support the Congress if they were willing to make sacrifices in West Bengal and endorse regional parties in other states.
Banerjee's remarks on supporting the Congress in Karnataka while expecting reciprocal support in West Bengal reflect her strategy for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
She proposed a "1:1 formula" where regional parties and the Congress join forces in states where regional parties hold strong positions, such as Bengal and Delhi, to counter the BJP effectively.
Banerjee highlighted the importance of unity among regional parties against the BJP and stated that wherever regional parties have a dominant presence, the BJP's influence would be curtailed.
The Chief Minister had previously focused on the strength of regional parties in countering the BJP but has now acknowledged the potential support from the Congress as part of a broader strategy.
Mamata Banerjee's recent meetings with regional party leaders and her emphasis on collaboration indicate her efforts to form a united front against the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
