Meghalaya's Fiscal Growth and Infrastructure Development

 

Meghalaya's Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma noted successful engagement with the central government, resulting in an increased tax share from 0.642% to 0.765% between the 14th and 15th Finance Commission.

The state's share of central taxes doubled from ₹4,212 cr to ₹9,466 cr from 2019-20 to 2024-25, signifying substantial fiscal growth.

Meghalaya is currently executing 11 externally aided projects (EAPs) valued at ₹7,233 cr, with EAPs expenditure rising from ₹499 cr to ₹1,699 cr between 2019-20 and 2024-25.

Through special central assistance CAPEX, the state obtained 50-year interest-free loans, effectively doubling expenditure and investment across various sectors, showcasing significant strides in infrastructure development and economic growth.
