Nifty closes below 17,100, Sensex down by 289 points

On March 23, the stock market witnessed a volatile session with the benchmark indices closing in the negative. At 3:00 pm, the Nifty fell below 17,100, while the Sensex dropped by 289.31 points or 0.50% to 57,925.28.  

Losers and Gainers: SBI, Asian Paints, HCL Tech among major losers; Hindalco, Nestle India, and Bharti Airtel among gainers

On the Nifty, major losers included State Bank of India, Asian Paints, HCL Technologies, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and Bajaj Auto, while Hindalco Industries, Nestle India, Bharti Airtel, Maruti Suzuki, and JSW Steel were among the gainers.

Sectoral Trend: Realty, bank, and IT sectors are down; metal, FMCG, and power names see buying

On the sectoral front, there was a mixed trend with the realty, bank, information technology, and PSU bank falling by 0.5-1 percent while buying was seen in the metal, FMCG, and power sectors.

Midcap and Smallcap Index: BSE midcap index sheds 0.4%, smallcap index ends flat

The BSE midcap index fell by 0.4 percent, while the smallcap index ended on a flat note.
