A Place of Worship for the Goddess of Wealth and Fortune
The temple is situated in Tiruchanur, which is in the Tirupati district of Andhra Pradesh, India. Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams administers the temple.
The Goddess Lakshmi is believed to have been born as Alamelu to Akasha Raja, the ruler of this region, and to have wed Venkateshwara of Tirupati.
After Lord Venkateswara's deep penance for twelve years, Goddess Lakshmi gave darshan to him on a red Lotus flower at Alamelu mangapuram.
The main deity of the temple is Padmavathi. Padmavathi is the incarnation of the goddess Lakshmi and the consort of Lord Venkateswara. The deity is facing east.
There are two sub-temples within the Padmavathi Temple: the Sri Krishna Swamy Temple and the Sri Sundararaja Swamy Temple.
Venkateswara was married to Alvelu Mangamma, the daughter of Raja Akash of Tiruchanur. Some say that she is the form of Goddess Lakshmi who took birth to marry the Venkateswara form of Lord Vishnu.
The temple dedicated to the consort of Lord Venkateswara, Padmavathi, is also known as Alamelu Mangapuram Temple.
Historical facts inscribed on the walls of this temple say that earlier the ancient temple of Lord Venkateswara was situated in Tiruchura village itself.
Due to the overcrowding of devotees at this place, the temple had to be shifted to Tirupati. Now all the rituals are only celebrated in Tirupati. Tiruchura village's popularity decreased due to this.
Every year, millions of pilgrims visit the temple to seek the blessings of the Goddess.
The temple is located at a distance of about 6 km from Tirupati Railway Station.
