Remembering Sam Manekshaw: India's First Field Marshal

Sam Manekshaw was born on April 3, 1914, in Amritsar, Punjab, British India.

He joined the British Indian Army in 1932 and later served in World War II.

In 1947, after India's independence, he became an officer in the newly formed Indian Army.

He was the first Indian Army officer to be promoted to the rank of field marshal in 1973.

Sam Manekshaw played a pivotal role in the 1971 Indo-Pak war and was instrumental in the creation of Bangladesh.

He was known for his wit, courage, and leadership abilities and was popularly called "Sam Bahadur" by his troops.

Sam Manekshaw passed away on June 27, 2008, at the age of 94, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism, integrity, and dedication to duty.
