Vidya Balan is an Indian film actress who was born on January 1, 1979, in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India.

She made her acting debut in 1995 with the sitcom ''Hum Paanch'', following which she made several unsuccessful attempts at a film career.

She had her first film release with a leading role in Goutam Halder's Bengali film 'Bhalo Theko' (2003).

She made her Bollywood debut in 2005 with the Hindi film "Parineeta".

She has since starred in several critically acclaimed successful films such as "The Dirty Picture," "Kahaani," ''Lage Raho Munna Bhai'', ''Hamari Adhuri Kahani'', ''Tumhari Sulu'', and "Mission Mangal''.

Vidya Balan has won several awards for her acting, including a National Film Award and Seven Filmfare Awards.

Vidya Balan is married to Siddharth Roy Kapur, a film producer and former managing director of Disney India.

She has been honored with the Padma Shri in 2014,  one of India's highest civilian awards, for her contributions to the entertainment industry.
