Tripura Ex-Royal will meet with Amit Shah For Alliance Talks
A former Tripura royal family member is scheduled to meet with Indian Home Minister Amit Shah for potential alliance talks.
The ex-royal, Pradyot Kishore Deb Barman, has expressed his desire to form an anti-BJP alliance ahead of the upcoming assembly polls in the state.
The Congress party has reportedly reached out to Deb Barman to form an alliance, but no official decision has been made yet.
Deb Barman was previously the president of the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee but resigned in 2019 due to differences with the party's high command.
He has since formed a regional party called the Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance (IPRA), which seeks to represent the interests of the state's indigenous communities.
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been in power in Tripura since 2018, after winning a historic victory over the Communist Party of India (Marxist).
However, the BJP has faced criticism from opposition parties and civil society groups over issues such as unemployment, corruption, and human rights abuses.
The upcoming assembly polls in Tripura are expected to be closely contested, with the BJP and opposition parties jostling for electoral advantage.
