Vinayaka Temple, Kanipakam: A Place of Worship for Lord Ganesha

The Sri Varasidhi Vinayaka Swamy Temple is a Hindu temple of Ganesha. It is in Andhra Pradesh, India, at Kanipakam in the Chittoor district.

There were, according to legend, three brothers who were mute, deaf, and blind. They were digging a well to fetch water for their field.

The device they were using hit a hard object and fell into the well. The three got rid of their disabilities when they dug further and blood started to gush out of the well.

The villagers rushed to the spot and found the deity of Ganesha to be there. The villagers dug further, but they were not able to find the base of the deity.

The Chola king Kulothunga Chola I constructed the temple in the early 11th century CE, and the Emperors of the Vijayanagara dynasty expanded it further in 1336.

The presiding deity of the temple is Vinayaka.

According to legend, the deity is believed to be Svayambhu. The well is always full of water, and the deity is seen in it.

The annual Brahmotsavam is celebrated for 21 days, starting from Vinayaka Chavithi day.

Different vahanams carry the idol of Vinayaka on these days amidst a large number of pilgrims across the country.

The very interesting fact associated with this temple is that Sri Vinayaka Idol's size is increasing day by day.

It is believed that the idol of Sri Vinayaka will be growing in size until the end of Kaliyuga, after which Sri Vinayaka will appear in person.
