Winter Chill Persists with Dense Fog and Upcoming Rainfall: Today’s Weather Forecast

As winter tightens its grip, a noticeable chill blankets North and Central India, with minimum temperatures ranging between 6-12°C. Notably, temperatures in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and West Uttar Pradesh hover between 6-10°C, while Rajasthan, East Uttar Pradesh, North Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand experience temperatures of 11-12°C. Some regions, including Punjab, West Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, North Odisha, and Madhya Pradesh, witness temperatures of 2-3°C above normal. Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Gujarat, and Northeast India also register higher-than-usual temperatures.

Weather Systems and Forecast:

Dense Fog Warning:

The early hours of the day are shrouded in dense to very dense fog in pockets of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh from the 26th to the 28th. Similar conditions are expected in Rajasthan and North Madhya Pradesh on the 26th and 27th, as well as over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad on the 26th of December. Isolated pockets in Odisha on the 26th & 27th, Uttarakhand from the 26th to 28th, Jammu-Kashmir on the 27th & 28th, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh on the 29th & 30th, and Assam & Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura from the 26th to the 30th of December are also expected to experience dense fog.

Rainfall Forecast:

A fresh spell of light to moderate rainfall is anticipated over Coastal Tamil Nadu from the 30th of December 2023 to the 1st of January 2024. A Western Disturbance is likely to influence Northwest India from the 29th of December, causing a wet spell over Northwest & adjoining Central India from the 30th of December to the 2nd of January 2024. Light to moderate rainfall, with isolated heavy rainfall, is expected over Kerala & Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, and Lakshadweep during the next 5 days, particularly on the 30th of December.

Minimum Temperatures Forecast:

There is no significant change expected in minimum temperatures over most parts of the country during the next 2-3 days.
