Minimum Temperatures Overview:
Minimum temperatures in the range of 7-11°C are currently prevailing over significant parts of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan. In slightly warmer conditions, the range extends to 12-14°C over Bihar, Chhattisgarh, interior Odisha, and Jharkhand. Notably, these temperatures are 2-4°C above the seasonal norm in many parts of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, interior Odisha, and Jharkhand.
Weather Systems at Play:
An upper air cyclonic circulation situated over the West Equatorial Indian Ocean & adjoining Southeast Arabian Sea, extending up to mid-tropospheric levels, is influencing the weather patterns. As a result, a low-pressure area is expected to form over the same region within the next 24 hours.

Dense Fog and Cold Day Warning:
- Dense to very dense fog conditions are expected to persist in most places over Punjab, Haryana, and some pockets for the next three days.
- Similar fog conditions are likely in many places over Uttar Pradesh for the next three days.
- North Rajasthan and Bihar may experience dense to very dense fog on the 30th & 31st morning, with a subsequent decrease in distribution and intensity.
- Isolated pockets in Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Odisha, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura may witness dense fog during specific periods.
Cold Day Conditions:
- Cold day conditions are anticipated in some to many parts of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, and isolated pockets of Uttar Pradesh on the 30th & 31st of December.
Rainfall Forecast:
- A feeble Western Disturbance is expected to bring light isolated rainfall/snowfall over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on the 30th & 31st of December.
- Lower-level easterly winds from the Bay of Bengal may result in light isolated rainfall over Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh from the 31st of December, 2023, to the 2nd of January, 2024.
- A fresh easterly wave is likely to bring light to moderate isolated to scattered rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Lakshadweep from the 30th of December, 2023, to the 3rd of January, 2024.
- Isolated heavy rainfall is expected over Tamil Nadu on the 1st & 2nd of January, 2024.

- No significant change in minimum temperatures is expected over Northwest & East India during the next 5 days.
- A gradual rise by 2-3°C in minimum temperatures is likely over central India during the next 4-5 days.
