Mental health is an important aspect of overall health and well-being. On October 10th, take some time to reflect on the importance of mental health and what you can do to support mental health in your community.
1. what is World Mental Health Day?
The overall objective of World Mental Health Day, observed on 10 October every year, is to raise awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilize efforts in support of mental health. Mental health care stakeholders worldwide can use The Day to discuss their work and what needs to be done to make mental health care a reality.
As our understanding of mental health grows, we grow along with it, and World Mental Health Day reminds us of that. Things have changed for the better because of our self-awareness and sensitivity. The language we use to talk about mental health has gotten better, as we use words like “crazy” and “lunatic” less often and we realize that they can be unintentionally hurtful and stigmatizing. There’s still so much more we can do to evolve as a society, even though we’ve learned a lot.
2. History of World Mental Health Day?
The day was officially established by the WFMH in the early nineties and mental health has progressed a lot since then. Since then, it has been celebrated every year on October 10.
3. Importance of World Mental Health Day.
Never has the need to eliminate the stigma and advance awareness and treatment of mental illness been greater. You’re not alone in whatever you’re going through on this day. We’re not the only ones facing a hard time. It’s encouraging to know that other people have gone through it and made it out to the other end. You can overcome your pain.
Mental health is the foundation of our well-being. It is what allows us to think, feel and act in ways that promote our physical and emotional health. It allows us to cope with stress, manage our emotions and relationships, and make decisions that improve our lives. Mental health is not a luxury. It is a basic human need. When we ignore our mental health, we put our physical health and overall well-being at risk.
4. World Mental Health Day 2022 theme.
The World Federation for Mental Health has announced that the theme for World Mental Health Day in 2022 will be “Mental Health in an Unequal World.”
5. How to support mental health
There are many ways to support mental health. Some people might think of ways to support mental health as being supportive of friends or family members who are struggling with mental health issues. Others might think about ways to improve their own mental health by seeking out support and resources.
No matter what your approach, there are many ways to support mental health. Here are a few tips:
1. Learn about mental health. It’s important to have a basic understanding of mental health so that you can be more supportive of others. Read about mental health issues, talk to mental health professionals, and learn about the different ways that you can support mental health.
2. Be understanding and non-judgmental. It’s important to be understanding and non-judgmental when someone is sharing their experiences with mental health. Remember that everyone’s experience with mental health is different, and there is no “right” way to experience it.
3. Show compassion. When someone is struggling with mental health, they need compassion and support. Showing compassion can mean different things to different people, but it generally means being supportive and understanding, and not judging or criticizing.
4. Offer practical support. If someone you know is struggling with mental health, offer practical support. This might mean helping them get to appointments, providing transportation, or cooking meals.
