World No Tobacco Day: Former Governor Soundararajan Highlights the Dangers of Tobacco

On World No Tobacco Day, the Former Governor of Telangana, Tamilisai Soundararajan, called for increased awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco consumption. She stressed the urgency of addressing this global health issue by citing World Health Organization (WHO) statistics, which indicate that tobacco kills over 80 lakh people worldwide each year.

“Habits can have a significant impact on one’s life; choose wisely and say no to tobacco,” Soundararajan advised, emphasizing the importance of making healthier lifestyle choices. She highlighted the critical role of awareness in combating the tobacco epidemic.

This year’s World No Tobacco Day theme is “Protecting children from tobacco industry interference,” a focus that underscores the need to safeguard the younger generation from the aggressive marketing tactics of the tobacco industry. Soundararajan’s message aligns with global efforts to create a healthier future by preventing tobacco use among children and young adults.
