The Tourism Department of Uttar Pradesh has embarked on an ambitious initiative to rejuvenate nine historical heritage sites across the state, allocating a substantial budget of Rs 490 crore for the project. With the aim of enhancing the tourism experience, these heritage sites are slated to undergo a transformation, including the conversion into hotels to cater to the growing demand from travelers.
A significant portion of the allocated budget, Rs 100-100 crore each, is earmarked for the restoration and development of iconic landmarks such as Chhatar Manjil in Lucknow, Chunar Fort in Mirzapur, and Barua Sagar Fort in Jhansi. The process of selecting companies for these projects is already in motion, signaling the government’s commitment to preserving and promoting the rich cultural and historical heritage of the state.
“In addition to the restoration projects, the Tourism and Culture Minister, Jaiveer Singh, announced plans to introduce boating and cruise rides along the Betwa River in Jhansi. The necessary infrastructure, including steamer boats and Sikara boats, is already in place, and tourists can expect boating facilities within a month. The launch of cruise operations is scheduled for May or June in the upcoming year, offering a unique and scenic experience for visitors”.
“Minister Jaiveer Singh emphasized the government’s priority to develop Bundelkhand and boost tourism in the region. The historical significance of Bundelkhand, known for its association with Rani Lakshmi Bai’s bravery and resistance against the British, makes it a symbol of courage and self-respect. The initiative aligns with the government’s commitment to showcase and preserve the rich cultural tapestry of Uttar Pradesh”.
As part of a trial initiative on November 7, boating facilities were tested along the river, aiming to attract tourists not only from Jhansi but also from those visiting nearby attractions like Orchha and Khajuraho. The holistic approach to heritage restoration, coupled with the introduction of recreational activities, positions Uttar Pradesh as a multifaceted tourism destination, offering a blend of historical exploration and leisure experiences for visitors.
